"Whitney Houston ft. Akon - Like I Never Left"

Finally, Here Is Some New Material From The Supernatural Whitney Houston. Like I Never Left Is A Mid-Tempo Cut Featuring Akon.

Whitney fans, please don't shoot me down when I say that this track is mediocre, it feels like a standard Akon production, which simply is not good enough for Whitney. I don't see Like I Never Left making her comeback album, I see it more as a 'street single' to test the water with critics.

The track is an obvious apology to Whitney's friends & fans for her behaviour in the past, I see the point & I'm sure hardcore fans never lost faith. I'm sooo glad this legend is back in the game, but if she wants critical acclaim, she needs a masterpiece, not an OK Akon track... Come On, I'm Not Wrong?

another day at the office for Akon and whitney. it amazes me how this industry sometimes works...if you put the production and mixing itself a side for a sec (which i btw dont think is modern enough, a few nice voxe's etc doesnt cut it for me). if someone "a no name" approached a label with this song i find it very hard to believe that it'd be a winner. unless your name is W.Houston i dont think ppl would trust it 2 work on a bigger scale.

personally miss her old days. i agree with mark, i expect way more from this man and woman. when getting your hands on a vocalist like this one i expect more emphasis on the core...the song and arrangement to lift and back her up. today “in her genre” she's competing with some serious talent, even akon needs to lift his production to be up to standard...i think this production will shine through in many ppl's ears as sounding a bit *lazy*

You ain't wrong. This track is solid, and grows after a few listens (but I still can't get over Akon's voice), but a LEGEND like Whitney deserves better material than this. Give us some stompin' uptempos that'll show the world what you're made of, Whitney! This song is simply a stroll in the park for you.

Yeah, you ain't wrong at all! Afterall, this is W H I T N E Y H O U S T O N, not like Ashanti or somebody (not hating on Ashanti), lol.

She can do SO MUCH BETTER and I did throw up a little bit in my mouth when I realized that WHITNEY HOUSTON did a collabo with Akon! Ugh...

Nothing against Akon (his music is straight), but we are talking about Whitney Houston here! One of the greatest voices of our generation & for her to do a cheesy/mediocre song like this is quite disappointing b/c it does not demonstrate her true vocal abilities.

Maybe this is a warmup though y'all... I sure hope so!

Firstly I would like to say how annoyed I am to hear Akon everywhere. What does Jaheim have to do to get noticed?! So far I am proud to say that I don't own anything freaturing Akon and I'm with Jaheim all the way...

...Having said that, I might have to buy this Whitney track :o(

So far all the big comeback albums this year have been dissapointing to me. But Whitney might still deliver. 'Like I Never Left' is gentle and pushes all the right buttons for me.

On '20 Y.O.', Janet Jackson sings "People living like machines coz they're scared to live their dreams...' and, to me, 2008's music symbolises that. The industry's most talented singers have been reduced to drones in order to get a hit. Janet's 'Discipline' album has been hailed as a success, but at a complete cost to her artistry. She wasn't involved with writing any of these songs and it shows. The songs lack any sort of imagery or character that Janet fans have come to respect. To be honest it sounds like any songs that didn't make the final cut on her 20 Y.O. album have been repackaged and released as the Discipline album. Apart from 'Luv', none of the Discipline songs make the grade.

Mariah's album 'E=MC2' is forward thinking and lyrically interesting, but where are the melodies? She's clearly bored of writing slow jams so why is she bothering? 'Thanx 4 Nuthin' is the only slow jam that sounds sincere but I don't even think that track lasts three minutes. Her album sounds like a compilation of todays favourite popular music and the songs will be played in the clubs for the next year or two...but nothing on the album screams 'CLASSIC'.

I think I appreciate what Mary J Blige is doing, but for every song on her album I can think of another song that's said the same thing but does it better. Which is a shame cos Mary really rocks on Chacka Khan's new album.

Which brings me to Chaka's 'Funk This' album. My latest buy and the only album this year that I can enjoy all the way through. The lyrics don't shine and are poor nursery rhymes. But when the lyrics are pathetic, the songs rests on the performance. And that's where Chaka shines through. She clearly knows what's missing from today's music and is all too eager to make up for it. She delivers like there's no tomorrow and the album is a complete joy to listen to.

I'm glad Whitney's new offering isn't hit obssessed and I hope that her forthcoming album doesn't turn her into another monotonous robot just for the sake of a few hits that won't be remembered. She was at her best between 98 & 2000 and I think 'Like I Never Left' remembers this.

You know what, I agree with you. I listened to the song and it's not what I expected for the Superstar Whitney Houston but really i'm still happy that she's back. I am sure that she'll bounce back soon and have songs going to Number at Billboard or Uk Charts easily.
