The Music

The ironically titled album sees Diddy's play things on route to the International pop scene with some huge, radio ready hits. After the initial, rather pointless intro, we are immersed into a club banging joint entitled Bad Girl, the Danja produced track sets the pace well, & is a good representation of an album which is generally enjoyable, but fundamentally flawed.

The album continues well with the first single from the record, the Britney sounding - Damaged, which is not only matched, but smashed by the preceding track - Prettyboy. Danja has helped once again with his phenomenal production that sets a brilliant standard, which the rest of the record cannot uphold.

The sultry sounding - Strip Tease & the mid tempo joint - Sucka For Love provide some middle of the road filler tracks before the next bout of nicely polished records. Ecstasy offers some superb production with added token Hip-Hop flows from Rick Ross, that are not only un-needed, but seem to be a slightly pathetic attempt at getting the girls some 'street cred'. Still, It remains an enjoyable song, the vocal arrangements are excellent, as are the harmonies.

2 Of You offers some of the worst lyrical content I have heard in a long time - "You Got Me Having Breakfast In The Afternoon" is just a small example of one of the worst tracks I have heard from an apparent 'Urban Artist'. This song shouldn't have made the album & the writer - Wynter Gordon should possibly be shot. Even the excellent pop production from the Runners, could not save this song.

Next, we reach a solid, well rounded track entitled - Lights Out. I was surprised to learn that it was written by Dawn Richards, arguably the most talented of the group. This is a very likeable edition to the record, once again, the production is strong, without overpowering the ladies vocals.

The slow jam - Poetry offers some much needed down time to an otherwise up-tempo album. Musically, it is the strongest song on offer, Poetry finally shows off the huge vocal range & ability of the group. This well written track is one of a few ballads, & is set apart from the rest of the record.

After the very questionable performance on - Key To Your Heart - we receive another nugget of talent from Danity Kane with - Is Anybody Listening. While not as strong as Poetry, it flows well, is sung with emotion & let's us appreciate the vocals of a highly talented group.

Analysis

As you can probably pick up in my overview, my problems with the album don't actually lie within the tracks or even the girls themselves. I am annoyed by the principles & fundamentals of the record.

This is a group with huge potential & talent, their vocal ability is on a world class scale, it is apparent from watching the Making The Band series, that they have actually personalities & are real people. However, all of this is wasted in a soul-less, heart-less record which is so over polished that you can almost see through it.

This record is aimed at the 'Hannah Montana generation' & is marketed as R&B, which it is not, while there is rhythm, there is certainly no blues. These girls need to be let loose to do their own thing, Diddy is a genius producer, which shines through so much that you overlook the artists themselves, they become faceless & pointless. Danity Kane should be allowed to write their own material from their own experiences, then they will have the right to be called R&B artists.

Verdict

Overall, Welcome To The Dollhouse is production heaven, the varied beats from different producers is brilliant. This is a well sung, polished & professional album that provides some enjoyable listening. However, at times, it is poorly written & provides no depth or longevity, you will forget about this album as soon as you have put it down.

If you want Soul get Mary J. Blige, for R&B listen to Alicia Keys. But, if you need your Pop fix, I would recommend Danity Kane.

****** - 6/10

"Cassie - Thirsty"

Bad Boy's Leading Lady - Cassie - Is Back With A Brand New Single - Taken From Her Yet Untitled New Album.

Thirsty is another club bangin', Pop / R&B fusion that is a sure fire radio hit. although it sounds pretty identical to her previous efforts, I can't hate on it because it's mad addictive.

Cassie says that she has "Grown" a lot since her last album, but from the sounds of this record, I don't think so, it seems to be more mindless, soul-less pop music that will sell records but will ultimately be her demise. People are going to get sick of her soon enough.

"Mariah Carey - That Chick" (Live)

Everyone's Favourite Diva - Mariah Carey - Performed A Brand New Track At The MTV Premier Party For The Hills Season 3.

First impressions of the That Chick are not doing it for me, the lyrics seem pretty standard & even Mariah's vocals weren't up to much (although still better than most other artists out there). Still, it was only my first listen, so I won't pass judgement on it just yet.

I am amazed that Mariah's album tracks are not leaking all over the net, Island/Universal have really done their thing & kept the record under wraps. Still, I wish something new would surface, I am really hyped about the whole project.

"Beyonce - Beautiful Nightmare" (HQ)

Here Is the High Quality, Non Tagged Version Of Beyonce's New Tune - Beautiful Nightmare.

Still not 100% sure if this is an official single yet, but it damn well should be, I cannot get this track out of my head, it's something new & innovative from Beyonce. Not confirmed who the producer is yet, but I'm feeling a bit of Timbo style.

"Madonna - Candy Shop"

Here Is The Reported Next Single From International Pop Superstar - Madonna.

Candy Shop is produced by Pharrell Williams & while it has it's charms, it doesn't compare to the ridiculous beat of her current single - 4 Minutes. It is still a great Pop record will only help fuel the fire of expectation around Madonna's new album - Hard Candy, which seems to have a Hip-Pop feel to it.

Still, the question has to be asked, is Madonna still relevant to modern music? Can she ever really be cool again? Or is she still just a guilty pleasure for a lot of music listeners? I'm not so sure she will ever be respectable, but she is a huge success, so let's big up Madonna for now!

"Beyonce Knowles - Beautiful Nightmare"

That's Right! Here Is A Brand New Track From Beyonce Knowles.

Apparently taken from her up-coming third studio album, as yet untitled - Beautiful Nightmare is a big change in direction from the former Destiny's Child star. With a very Dance orientated sound, Knowles seems to be spreading her wings with this record.

After confirmation that Timbaland would produce the majority of Beyonce's new record, you knew that this was going to be her best work ever & this record goes to prove it. While not the best track she has ever produced, it is exciting to see such a huge artist decide to make a move into a new genre of music.

Miss Knowles has also enlisted the help of British producers - The Freemasons - who are responsible for the official remixes of DeJa Vu & Beautiful Liar. This is a positive move, as I think The Freemasons are mad talented & will provide Knowles with some radio ready hits.

"Teyana Taylor - Google Me" (Video)

Here Is the First Official Video From Rising Star - Teyana Taylor.

Teyana is the brand new signing from Pharell Williams, & is making waves in the Urban world, with a unique 'in your face' sound. She is pretty much a mini Missy Elliott, while her lyrical content leaves you slightly unfulfilled, her flow & style are amazing.

The track has nice production, a solid flow & a real smooth feel to it. While it appeals to the young Pop market, Google Me manages to come through on a Hip-Hop level.

The video itself is, in my opinion, trying to hard, it seems to be different for the sake of it, rather than making a statement. Still, it's pretty solid for a début & I really like Taylor, let's hope this is a start of a long career.

New Mariah Carey Promo Shot

Here Is A New Promotional Shot Of Mariah Carey - In Preparation Of Her Next Round Of World Domination With Her New Album - E=MC2.

Yes, it's highly 'Photo-Shopped' & she is looking a little like a certain Miss Knowles, but damn it's a good look. Not long now until the album release, I personally can't wait for April 13th to roll around.
